📍 Designed to be exhibited at Bow-Wow Haus London, 2018

This digitally fabricated doghouse was designed for A.H.A. Design as part of the Bow-Wow Haus London Exhibition in 2018. The project required the use of non-toxic materials, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for dogs while incorporating innovative digital fabrication techniques.

Geometric Optimization & Design Development

The initial concept explored the intersection of two cylinders, with face triangulation applied to optimize the double-curved surfaces. Through an iterative design process, we refined the geometry by adjusting the angles of inward and outward-facing surfaces, ultimately achieving a dynamic yet structurally efficient form with uniform triangular faces.

Functional & Environmental Considerations

Beyond aesthetics, the design integrates key functional features to enhance comfort and usability:

  • Natural Ventilation: Selected triangular faces were perforated to allow for air circulation, maintaining a well-ventilated interior.

  • Weather Protection: The solid upper surfaces provide shelter from rain, while the more transparent side panels maintain visual openness without compromising durability.

Digital Fabrication & Material Innovation

A defining aspect of this project was its execution through large-scale 3D printing:

  • Sustainable 3D Printing: The structure was fabricated using environmentally friendly filament, minimizing waste while ensuring a lightweight yet sturdy form.

  • Digital Manufacturing Optimization: The symmetrical design allowed for efficient 3D printing, with components optimized for seamless digital production.

  • Precision Fabrication by Ai Build, London: The final life-size prototype was produced using advanced robotic 3D printing technology, demonstrating the potential of digital fabrication in small-scale architecture and product design.

Exploring the Future of Pet-Friendly Design

This project highlights the intersection of parametric design, sustainability, and pet-friendly architecture. The combination of geometric optimization, material research, and digital fabrication opens possibilities for customized pet structures that can be adapted to various sizes, climates, and user preferences.

By integrating performance-driven design with innovative production techniques, this doghouse serves as a functional and expressive piece, showcasing new possibilities in digitally manufactured pet architecture.
